SARZA was contacted by SAPS to assist with the continued search of a person who tried to cross a low water bridge and her vehicle was swept off the bridge into the river during a flash flood.
SARZA deployed with members of SAPS and COJ Fire along the Jukskei river and covered about 40km in and along the water. SAPS K9 had dogs in the water aiding in the search and Gauteng Traffic Police assisted with an arial search along the river. SARZA provided logistics, communication, JOC and scene safety support as part of a cross functional team deployed in the search. Unfortunately nothing was found and the search was called off for the weekend.
We wish to remind people not to drive over low level bridges or roads that are flooded, as it could easily end in tragedy.
We thank all role players who assisted over the last two days, including the local businesses and community who donated water, cold drinks and food to the search teams.
Our thoughts go out to the family whose loved one is still missing.
