Shortly after the flash floods hit West of Tshwane, SARZA was contacted to assist with a person who tried to cross a low water bridge and his vehicle was swept off the bridge into the river. The driver managed to get out of his vehicle and get to a rock.

SARZA escalated the call to SAPS, Gauteng EMS and NSRI who all met on scene. The water was flowing too strongly to launch a boat and air support was not possible. SARZA provided communication, safety support, JOC support and logistical assistance on this call. SAPS, GEMS and NSRI attempted to get to the driver from both sides of the river. NSRI was successfull in reaching him and getting him to safety. The driver had minimal injuries, but was transported to a local medical facility for treatment.

We wish to remind people not to drive through low level bridges or roads that are flooded, as it could easily end in tragedy.

We thank all role players who ensured the driver made it back to his family safely.
